What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid allows UK charities to claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated by a taxpayer, at no extra cost to the donor. Your church must hold a valid signed declaration from each donor before claiming.
Gift Aid declarations
- Go to Finance → Gift Aid.
- Click Add Declaration.
- Select the donor — for example, "Jane Demo".
- Enter the declaration date and valid from date.
- Record how the declaration was received (written, online or verbal).
- Click Save.
Tip: The valid from date is usually the date the donor signed the declaration.
Linking donations to declarations
When you record a donation from a donor with an active Gift Aid declaration, KirkRegister can mark it as Gift Aid eligible. The treasurer can then include it in a claim.
Making a claim
Go to Finance → Gift Aid and use the Claims tab to prepare a claim for HMRC. Your church needs a valid HMRC reference number on file in Settings.
Declarations expiring
Gift Aid declarations can expire. KirkRegister can remind you when declarations are due for renewal. Check the Reminders section under Gift Aid.
